Choosing a career is an involved process that is based on a number of things, including your interests, skills, work-related values, and personality. You might want to meet with a career development professional, i.e. career counselor or career development facilitator. A career development professional will use various tools to help you evaluate your interests, personality, skills, and values. This is called a self assessment. He or she will then show you how all these things, combined, play a role in choosing a career.

You should begin to gather information about these careers which will include a job description, outlook for the field (will you be able to find a job), and required training and education. When you have narrowed down your choices to just a few, then you should investigate even further, perhaps conducting some informational interviews with those working in the field. You can now make an educated decision about what career to pursue.

How is a Good CV Used?

The good news is that your CV may be used in various ways for different purposes, but your CV is not written to get a job. It is a self-marketing tool to get you a meeting or job interview.

When responding to an advertised job vacancy, a well written CV and a good covering letter will be instrumental in obtaining those vital interviews.

Most recruiters use CVs as a method of screening people out rather than in, so pay attention to avoiding the pitfalls and any negative statements, always be positive, communicating your aspirations, skills, demonstrated abilities and achievements.

If an appointment is being headhunted, a Researcher or a Search Consultant handling the assignment will speak to the job candidate before you provide a CV to the employer before or during an interview. You job candidate will have learned a good deal about the job before the delivery of the CV. Usually Head-hunters will not pass your CV on to the employer. Instead, they should make a CV or profile for you, the job candidate. You may send your CV to Head-hunters on a speculative basis. It may then used to decide whether or not to put you on their database.

When you are networking, you may take your CV along to meetings with a view either to asking for advice on it or in order to give copies to your network contacts, which they may in turn pass on to other people who could have a job for you.

When you are making speculative applications, you are initially likely to send a letter, rather than a CV, perhaps taking your CV along to any meetings you obtain. It will then be used in much the same way that slides or handouts are at a presentation – as something to refer to in order to give structure to the session and as a reminder, afterwards, of the key points.

Pay attention to what is being said. Maintain eye contact, especially when it’s obvious your interviewer is making an important point. Focus on the discussion at hand and keep your ears peeled for important details. If you mishear a word, don’t be afraid to clarify rather than pretend you understood what was said.

Job Interview Tip #10 – Communicate Clearly.

Speak clearly and choose your words carefully. You may want to make a humorous comment but what if it backfires? Also, don’t be obscure – use words and ideas that make sense and can be easily understood. Avoid being superfluous.

Smiling is important so pay a tremendous amount of attention to your teeth. Make sure they’re immaculate and presentable. Group 1 (Clients) is the Hiring Managers/ HR/ Recruitment Companies/ Search Firms/ Talent Acquisition teams and Head of Departments. This group have 1 common problem faced, yes… PROBLEM. The lack of talents. Why so you may ask? Well, it is the on-going trend that when the job market is doing well, the talents tend to be pickier about choice of potential Employer and more demanding about package.

Group 2 (Candidates) is the talents out there who will jump on opportunities to scale up the corporate ladder, move up the ranks within the same industry and also in return, having a more attractive remuneration package. This in turn creates more opportunities for others within their current organization once they leave for greener pastures.

Group 2 (Candidates) comes about due to unfortunate retrenchments process by some organizations. Although they tend to be more critical of the opportunities that was laid in front of them in the past, the fact remains; They are still talents in their own rights and professionals in what they do best.
